Acne Treatment and Pills for Skin Disorder - Health - Fitness

If you are a teenager or an adult suffering from acne, then you know how embarrassing it can be a problem. Not only is it frustrating to have spots or pimples pop-up at the wrong time, but also can have a negative impact on their self-esteem and confidence.

And if you're like most people, chances are you've tried countless acne products, with nothing but disappointment to prove it. One of the main reasons that most people have difficulty finding an effective acne remedy skin type is that each one is different. As acne treatment over the counter worked for someone else, does not necessarily mean it will work for you too.

In order to ensure that you get a clean and clear skin, you need to use something that is gentle enough not to damage or irritate the skin more than it already is, but also be efficient enough to get rid of your acne and prevent that happen again.

Acne treatment depends on whether you have a mild, moderate or severe acne. Sometimes the doctor will combine treatments to get the best results and avoid the development of drug-resistant bacteria.

Treatment may include lotions or gels placed on blemishes or sometimes entire areas the skin such as the chest or back (topical medications). You can also take medications by mouth (oral).

Mild acne

Treatment for mild acne (whiteheads, blackheads or pimples) may include:

1. Gentle cleansing with warm water and mild soap such as Dove or Cetaphil.

2. The application of benzoyl peroxide (Brevoxyl or as Triaz).

3. The application of salicylic acid (as Propa pH, or Stridex).

If these treatments do not work, you may want to see your doctor. Your doctor may give you a prescription for more lotions or creams. You can try an antibiotic lotion. Or you can try a lotion with medicine that helps to unplug your pores.

Moderate to severe acne

Sometimes acne needs treatment with stronger medications or a combination of therapies. Deeper spots, such as nodules and cysts, are more likely to leave scars. As a result, your doctor may give antibiotics by mouth before starting the healing process. This type of acne may need a combination of several therapies. Treatment for moderate to severe acne may include:

1. The application of benzoyl peroxide.2. Drainage of large pimples and cysts by a physician.3. The application of antibiotic prescription gels, creams or lotions.4. The application of prescription retinoids.5. The application of azelaic acid.6. Taking prescription oral antibiotics.7. Taking prescription oral retinoids (eg isotretinoin).

Treatment for acne scars

There are many procedures to remove acne scars, such as laser resurfacing or dermabrasion. Some scars will shrink and disappear over time. But if the scars bother you, talk to your doctor. He or she may refer you to a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

To think

Most acne treatments take time. It often takes 6 to 8 weeks for acne to improve after starting treatment. Some treatments may cause acne to get worse before improving.

If your acne still has not improved after several attempts with other treatments, your doctor may recommend you take an oral retinoid, such as isotretinoin. Doctors prescribe this medication as a last resort, as it has some rare but serious side effects and is expensive.

Certain low-dose birth control pills may help control acne in women who tend to have flare-ups before menstruation.
